InnovationMatters: “The challenge of relying on University Innovation as a Source of Wealth Creation.” (2006)   It is unlikely for a technology to be developed in a university or college with limited industry engagement. Most universities and colleges do not have the quantity or quality of people or the appropriate policies with which to maximize these opportunities. In addition, they do not have access to the level of financial resources needed to develop their technology. While the usual response to this dilemma is to get more industry input, there are several flaws to this approach that need to be considered.
